Dress down your Blazer with Jeans – The complete guide.

Introduction to dressing down your blazer with jeans

Dressing down a blazer with jeans, the ultimate casual chic look. When you dress down your blazer or suit jacket with jeans not only do you make the blazer most casual, but you also dress up your jeans, hence this dress code will make you pass most occasions and workplaces without much confusion on your part.

Now there are a few caveats or ground rules to pulling off this look effortlessly.

The blazer

The blazer or suit jacket which you choose with this look must not have too much sheen on the fabric, it should not be too formal. Pick a jacket that has a little texture or a casual pattern on it.

For e.g. A jacket with a hopsack weave, corduroy fabric or a glen check pattern would work excellently with this look.

The Jeans

The jeans for this look cannot have any distressing or fading, in terms of wash – stick to medium to dark wash.

And in terms of fit stick to a classic or straight fit and not skinny jeans. Since we are going to pair this with a formal jacket the jeans fit should be as close to your trousers as possible.

For this blog I am going for a Levi’s 512 fit jeans. They are mid rise with a straight fit with a little bit of tapering below the knees.

The shirt

Now the shirt or the top will be the piece that bridges the gap between the jeans and the blazer so you must be careful in terms of selecting this piece of the outfit.

You should look for shirts with small repeating patterns or a little bit of texture like the oxford weave.

Shirts with button down collars or barrel cuffs also work.

Even knit sweaters and knitted shirts work as well very well in this look as they have a textured fabric.

Avoid formal shirts with double cuffs and extremely fine fabrics.

The right shoes

The shoes in this situation must also not be too formal. Avoid oxfords.

Shoes like Derbys, formal boots like Chelseas and chukka boots, Loafers and even leather sneakers work with this look.

What accessories should you use with the blazer and jeans look ?

Some people like to rock a tie with this look, but I like to avoid the tie when it comes to this look.

However, I do like to include a pocket square with this look wherever necessary.

Some sample Blazer with jeans look for you to try !

Look 1

Now that we have talked about the basics let’s move onto the styling ideas.

In the first look I combined the Double-Breasted Jacket from my suit and dressed it down with Button down pale grey shirt. The Jacket has a Prince of Wales check pattern on it making it perfect to pair with the jeans.

To match the jacket, I even went for a Pailey purple pocket square and for the shoes we have gone for black Chelsea boots.

You can even rock this look unbuttoned if you feel like it.

Look 2

In this look I have replaced the shirt with a micro checked pale pink shirt with a straight point collar.

For shoes I have replaced it with a Chocolate brown Chukka boot. The collar stands up perfectly and to go with the whole VIP look I have added black clubmaster googles to it. To match with the tone of the shirt we have gone with a maroon red pocket square.

To be honest this is my most favorite look out of all the different Jeans-blazer looks.

Look 3

In this look we have changed the jacket for a Navy Unstructured Jacket. This jacket has texture due to the knit weave making it perfect to be paired up with jeans. Again, with the change of the Jacket we have changed up the pocket square for a Paisley purple pocket square.

Look 4

In look number 4 we have paired with the jeans a grey linen Jacket with black windowpane pattern.

Because of the linen material, this jacket again has a casual feel making it perfect for pairing with jeans and immediately giving this look a spring summer feel.

This is one of the flashiest jackets I own so I personally reserve this look for special occasions and events only.

Look 5

Look number 5 dresses down the Double-breasted jacket with a Knitted crew neck sweater.

This is the most casual I am comfortable with in terms of dressing down the Double-breasted jacket.

A simple and comfortable look for fall/winter. This look is also perfect for travelling because of its comfort and simplicity.

Look 6

Look number 6 is the most casual out of all the looks.

Combining a clean white polo shirt with a Navy Unstructured Blazer. This look is also perfect for Spring/Summer as the blazer is completely unlined.

To go with the Spring/Summer vibe I have also added some clubmaster shades.

Conclusion

Those were some of my most favourite looks in terms of combining a blazer with jeans.

To dress down a blazer with jeans is one of my most favourite dress codes as it easily passes for most formal and semi formal dress codes without being too flashy and formal.

You can even wear some of these outfits to date or just coffee with your friends.
